Senator George LeMieux' First Day On The Job.
Senator George LeMieux, hand picked by Charlie Crist to assume the seat left vacated by the retirement of Senator Mel Martinez, was sworn in this past Thursday. In an interview with the AP, LeMieux expressed support for Barack Obama's government run health care scheme to sell insurance through exchanges. The AP reported it thusly:
"He also said he liked the president's idea for an insurance exchange
that would have companies compete to sell low-cost insurance to the
uninsured. LeMieux said it's similar to an idea Crist put in place in
Florida."
Later when briefed on a bill, approved in committee would allow drilling within 45 miles of the Florida coast, the AP reposted his response this way:
"He was also told a bill that's received committee approval would
allow offshore drilling within 45 miles of Florida's coast, and even
closer in the western Panhandle. Worse still, Florida would get no
revenue from the drilling. LeMieux said he is concerned that drilling
could affect military training and asked his staff to set up a meeting
with military officials.
"I wouldn't want to do anything that would impact those military bases," he said."
Is it any wonder why the GOP base is wondering who is running the store? I am speechless.
